ALBUM REVIEW: Priscilla Renea’s “Jukebox”

Priscilla Renea

After two months of clutching our advanced copy of Priscilla Renea’s debut album Jukebox, we are über-excited to announce that her female, empowering collection of tunes hits stores tomorrow, jUKEBOXDecember 1st! Still in her early 20s, Priscilla made a name for herself by emerging from the ranks of youtube popularity. Let’s face it – it’s very easy to get “lost in the sauce” amongst millions of music hopefuls, but when true talent surfaces, we’re all bound to take notice.

Priscilla’s first single “Dollhouse,” an up-tempo anthem for girls who advocate relationship independence, shows off Renea’s airy vocals. The Rich Lee directed video, in which Priscilla plays a “real life” doll with a less than perfect boyfriend, painted a vivid yet playful picture of the songs’ earnest, endearing lyrics. Next up is the bouncy, pop track “Lovesick”, a medical condition of the heart that every woman has had at some point in their lives. “Pretty Girl” is an insightful ballad that will make girls recognize their true beauty.

SONGS WE :  Priscilla puts a flashlight on the issue of premature parenthood with her neck-rolling passage “Rockabye”. Heavy subject matter for sure, but this tell-it-like-it-is track is an eye-opening, surefire hit. Another standout is “Mr. Workabee,”which puts promiscuous men “on blast”. “Bacon and Eggs” makes us slip on our dancing shoes immediately. Not only does the tune make us hungry, but it reminds us of the importance of spoiling that special guy in our life. Last but not least,”Fixing My Hair” touches on one of our many insecurities with absolute sincerity.

After playing 11 solid tracks from beginning to end, Jukebox has the attributes of a classic album for those who pop their quarter in and listen. Priscilla started as an artist on our radar, but she has turned into an artist headed for the number #1 spot!
